3 Key Marketing Strategies Without Spending A Penny

Email Marketing

There are different ways in which you can use email marketing. This can be through a monthly newsletter, monthly promotions or what is often referred to in the marketing world as “thought leadership”.

The key is to collect email addresses and utilise them! Whenever, you get a new enquiry you should always ask for their email! Whenever anyone downloads or clicks a form on your website, they should be providing an email address.

The next step is to collate them altogether, even if it is a spreadsheet to start with. Although we would always suggest having what is referred to as a CRM (Client Relationship Management System).

Once you have collated the email addresses from your contacts, suppliers, enquiries, customers etc. you can then establish how you want to use that information. The key with Email Marketing is to remind people you exist and how you can help them.

We’d recommend keeping it simple to begin with, for example either a monthly newsletter or monthly promotion. Each time you obtain another email address they are added into your email sequence. This can also all be automated.


Social Media – Facebook Groups

These days there are multiple social media platforms. We would always recommend starting with one and nailing that (excuse the pun) before moving onto the next platform.

For Trades we would recommend Facebook or Instagram – both in our view have different purposes.

Instagram is great to show your work with images and videos.

However, Facebook especially Facebook Groups are a way to connect with potential customers. These days there are so many Facebook Groups where people are asking for help or recommendations.

Join relevant Groups. However, to start with we would only recommend joining 1 or 2 to build your presence. Now you may think it is a waste of time giving out advice for free when you have worked so hard to build your knowledge and experience. We do not advise giving everything away, just a few hints and tips to demonstrate your knowledge. By being helpful it will lead to them potentially becoming customers or they may then recommend you in the future.

The key is to open dialogue with them and either get them into a DM conversation or a telephone conversation which can lead to you potentially quoting to fix the problem for them.


Website

In our view a website has so many benefits and purposes. This is a place where you can show testimonials of the work you have previously done. It is a location where you can obtain email addresses to utilise within your email marketing.

Your website does not need to be extensive or flashy. Even just a 1 page landing page can help you. It can even potentially be built by you. I built the SLJ Consultancy website, but I have a geeky side and love doing it.
